About Amelia Hedgehog

My photo series with Amelia Hedgehog started in 2014 in the basement studio of our home. I moved to a new city for photography and didn’t know many people. Amelia was a friend and a muse who I would take photos of and share on social media. Amelia began to gain media attention online and I was encouraged by my friends to start a Amelia Hedgehog Studio and create hedgehog art.

In 2015, the first Amelia Hedgehog calendar was created and sold. Since then, me and Amelia have worked on campaigns, greeting cards, and conducted book readings at schools and bookstores. Our motto: Do Small Things With Great Love. It is inspired by Amelia being small in size but fierce in spirit and by me being born in Taiwan — an tiny island on the Pacific Ocean. Growing up there as an artist, I knew there was more (insert Moana storyline). I want to work on projects that challenge my comforts, I want to tell stories, create good art and to never forget to celebrate the little things.

One may ask: Why the name Amelia?

Amelia is named after Amelia Earhart, the fearless female pilot who set the example for women to be daring, powerful, and believing that adventure is worthwhile in itself. Amelia also draws inspiration from the French film Amélie who inspires her to find beauty in the mundane, to live her life to a French soundtrack and stay true to who she is.

Amelia passed away December 12, 2017, during the making of this book. Her passing motivated me to put the book on Kickstarter and invite my community to take part in creating this book.

I am excited to share this book with you.
